During this trip, H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince will unveil an engraved stone pillar from the bronze age at the Museum of the Institute of Archaeology of Ulaan Baatar which was brought back from the Arkangaï archaeological site in Urtyn Am which the Prince will visit. Since 2006, this archaeological project has been conducted by the Monaco Museum of Anthropology in cooperation with the Institute of Archaeology of Mongolia and since 2007 has come under the responsibility of UNESCO.
The Sovereign Prince will take part in a dinner given in His honour by Mr Nambaryn Enkhbayar, President of Mongolia.
To mark the scientific and cultural cooperation between Monaco and Mongolia, H.S.H. Prince Albert II will present the Mongolian Academy of Sciences - Institute of Archaeology with a cast of the double burial from the Grimaldi Grotte des Enfants which dates from the Gravettian period of the Upper Palaeolithic. Discovered in 1901, this burial is the result of fruitful excavations initiated by Prince Albert 1st from 1895.
This is the Sovereign Prince's first official visit to Mongolia.
