H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco travelled to Milan yesterday in the context of preparations for the Universal Exposition 2015*, devoted to the theme of "Feeding the Planet: Energy for Life".
Welcomed by Mr Giuseppe Sala, Commissioner-General of the Expo Milano 2015 and Mr Stefano Gatti, Director-General of International Affairs for the Expo Milano 2015, the Sovereign Prince chaired the meeting of the jury for the "Feeding Knowledge Programme", a scientific research programme on food safety, organised by the Institute of Bari in partnership with the Polytechnic University of Milan.
In the afternoon, H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco spoke to the press during the presentation conference held at the headquarters of the Fondazione Cariplo foundation.
After deliberation, the jury chaired by H.S.H. the Prince and comprised of distinguished members such as Mr Romano Prodi, awarded the winning project in best sustainable development practices linked to food safety with a documentary or photo report commissioned for the Universal Exposition 2015.
* The Universal Exposition will open in Milan on 1 May 2015. The Monaco Pavilion, built on a 1,010 m2 lot and ideally located on the Boulevard des Pavillons Internationaux between Saudi Arabia, Japan and Russia, will showcase spaces related to solidarity, sustainability and innovation.
The Pavilion's eco-friendly architecture will be designed by the Italian Enrico Polliniet, with construction and building work entrusted to ESKO, a Monaco-based company specialising in innovative, modular structures.
At the end of the Universal Exposition, in partnership with the Monaco Red Cross and with the support of the Government of the Principality, the Pavilion will be transported to Burkina Faso, a priority focus country for the Monegasque Cooperation. Its structure will be adapted to suit the local climate, with the building itself reborn as a training centre.
