This conversation was an opportunity to cover international subjects focusing in particular on the protection of the environment.
This meeting was followed by a reception given in his honour by Mrs Kratsa-Tsagaropoulou, Vice-President of the European Parliament responsible for issues relating to the Mediterranean, in the presence of dignitaries from environmental, scientific and cultural fields.
H.S.H. Prince Albert II was then met by Mr Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission for a private audience followed by a working lunch in the presence of the Monegasque delegation and the President's staff.
Several issues were covered, particularly Monaco's support of the Barcelona process.
After presenting the Union's key project for the Mediterranean, Mr Manuel Barroso congratulated H.S.H. Prince Albert II on his actions taken in maritime scientific research.
They were delighted at the prospect of attending the Paris summit on 13th July at the invitation of French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
In the afternoon, the Sovereign Prince was received by Slovenian Foreign Affairs Minister Mr Dimitrij Rupel who demonstrated his full support for Monaco to join the Barcelona process.
This trip once again demonstrates the interest that H.S.H. Prince Albert II accords the major international institutions and his willingness to discuss key common interest subjects.
