The Grimaldi and Matignon families were united in 1715, following the marriage of Jacques IV of Matignon to Louise-Hippolyte Grimaldi. Jacques IV of Matignon, who reigned as Prince of Monaco under the name of Jacques I, assembled large collections of works of art at the Castle of Torigni-sur-Vire and at the Hôtel Matignon in Paris.
Today, the Museum of Saint-Lô contains more than sixty works from these collections.
