Yesterday H.S.H. the Prince attended a Meeting with Ms Bachelet who thanked him for his role in organising the MBI meeting in Santiago.
She spoke of Chile's current joint efforts alongside Argentina to submit a proposal for a new marine protected area in Antarctica. The President mentioned the other projects suggested by the United States in the Ross Sea, as well as those suggested by France and Australia on the east coast.
In addition, she underlined Chile's commitment to the fight against illegal fishing, particularly around islands such as the Juan Fernandez Islands, Isla Sala y Gomez, and Easter Island (Rapa Nui). Ms Bachelet reminded the Prince that her country is to host the second global ocean conference in November 2015 (with the US hosting this year's edition), and invited H.S.H. the Prince to the event due to be held in Valparaiso.
