Visit of Cardinal Pietro Parolin

On Sunday 18 July, H.S.H. Prince Albert II received H.E. Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Vatican, in audience at the Palace of Monaco.

Cardinal Parolin came to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of the convention governing relations between Monaco and the Holy See and made a forty-eight hour state visit to the Principality.

On Sunday morning, the Sovereign attended a pontifical mass in the presence of numerous faithful in Monaco Cathedral, before receiving the Cardinal for a one-to-one audience and then a lunch attended by some fifteen guests in the gardens of the Palace of Monaco.

H.S.H. the Prince then took the Vatican Secretary of State to the Palatine Chapel and the Palace library for a tour of the premises.

Cardinal Parolin, the closest collaborator of His Holiness Pope Francis, also took the opportunity of this State visit to talk with the national Catholic community and to meet with local authorities, including the Minister of State, H.E. Mr Pierre Dartout.
