On Monday 16 May, H.S.H. Prince Albert II officially established the Federation of Grimaldi Historic Sites of Monaco, which he presides over, by inviting some sixty mayors of the municipalities affiliated to the French and Italian associations of this network to a reception in the gardens of the Palace of Monaco. After the lunch, the first meeting of the board of directors of this entity was held.
In 2015, Jean-Claude Guibal, then deputy mayor of Menton and president of the France-Monaco friendship group at the French National Assembly, took the initiative of creating the "Grimaldi Historic Sites of Monaco" association. This renewed friendship movement has grown over the years, thanks in particular to the various trips made by the Sovereign to the territories historically linked to His Family.
Since 2018, in accordance with the wishes of Prince Albert II, the "Meeting of the Grimaldi Historic Sites of Monaco" has been organised every year in June at the Place du Palais. The aim of this event is to welcome, in turn, representatives of the Grimaldi Historic Sites of Monaco, so that they can present their cultural, craft, folklore and gastronomic heritage to the general public. The 3rd edition will take place on 4 and 5 June with the participation of three groups: the Manche, the Territoire-de-Belfort and several communes in the Alpes-Maritimes.
In 2021, on the initiative of Fulvio Gazzola, Mayor of Dolceacqua, the Italian association "Siti Storici Grimaldi di Monaco" was created. Today, nearly one hundred local authorities or legal entities, French and Italian, have joined the two networks. The Federation of Grimaldi Historic Sites of Monaco will ensure synergy between the two national associations and promote their actions from the Principality.
