Visit by H.S.H. Prince to Stella and Andora in Italy

As part of His regular visits to lands historically linked to His family and to the Principality, H.S.H. Prince Albert II travelled to Liguria on Tuesday, 25 November.

Welcomed in San Giovanni by Mayor Andrea Castellini, local authorities, and many residents, the Prince paid tribute to Sandro Pertini, former President of the Italian Republic, by laying a wreath on his grave.

A major figure of the 20th century, Pertini remains one of the most beloved Presidents of Italy, recognised for his courage on the fronts of the First World War, his anti-fascist commitment, and his role in the Resistance.

The Sovereign then visited the remains of the former medieval castle once owned by the Grimaldi family, before touring the Sandro Pertini House-Museum, where the official addresses were delivered.

In the afternoon, H.S.H. the Prince travelled to Andora, where he was welcomed by Mayor Mauro Demichelis.

He unveiled the official plaque of the Network of Grimaldi of Monaco Historic Sites, and then inaugurated the restoration works of the Clavesana–Paraxo Castle, a property of the Grimaldi family in the 13th century.

The visit concluded with the discovery of the adjoining church.

A visit marked by history, heritage, and the deep ties that unite the Principality and Liguria.
