On the evening of Friday 23 June, H.S.H. Princess Charlène, accompanied by Her children, attended the festivities of la Saint Jean which took place on the Place du Palais.
Originating from a very ancient custom which is based on the birth of Saint John the Baptist, fixed by the Church as 24 June, la Saint Jean is the festival of fire and light.
Each year, on 23 June, a "batafoegu" (bonfire) is lit on the Place du Palais and traditional groups like the Palladienne de Monaco lead the celebrations. The fire is preceded by a religious ceremony in the Chapelle Palatine.
The festivities continued in the evening of 24 June in the Moulins district, in Monaco.
